I have been a midwife since 1996 and have worked in all areas of midwifery at R.S.C.H. and Worthing Hospital. I worked as sister
on the delivery suite for 5 years, where I gained extensive experience caring for women in labour, including
obstetric emergencies and newborn resuscitation. For a time, I was responsible for teaching these skills to other midwives.
Other areas of expertise include the use of optimal positioning to ensure correct engagement of the baby during pregnancy, and the
use of upright positions for birth.
I have been present at several hundred water births, both in hospital and at home, and am convinced of the effectiveness of water
during labour and birth and encourage every woman to consider using a pool.
I became an independent midwife as I wish to provide care in a less frantic and more personal way which was only achievable
by working outside the N.H.S.
I still work occasional shifts in the hospital, when my caseload allows, ensuring my skills are fully up to
date, as well as attending regular study days.
As with all midwives, I am registered and accountable to the Nursing and Midwifery Council and have annual
reviews with my supervisor. I am also a member of the Independent Midwives Association.
I am married with no children. I enjoy sailing, keeping fit, gardening and socialising.
